Jaguar is the luxury vehicle brand owned by Jaguar Land Rover, based in Coventry, England. Jaguar Cars was the previous company name before merging in 2013 with Land Rover. Jaguar originally started as a motorcycle sidecar manufacturer, the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922. This company progressed into making bodies for passenger cars. Various other associations and merges included the Standard Motor Company, British Motor Corporation and British Leyland. The Jaguar name first appeared on a vehicle in 1935, a SS Cars Limited (founded 1922) 2.5 litre sports car. A sister model, the 3.5 litre open top sports car was named the SS Jaguar 100.
